Madeline’s Trip to the Outer Banks

My family and I traveled to the Outer Banks in North Carolina for our Spring Break vacation. We spent almost a full day driving before we got there Monday afternoon. Our place was really nice. It was on the 4th floor of a new building. I remember it being on the 4th floor because my little brother was always the one who had to push the “4” button in the elevator. We had a pretty view of the Atlantic Ocean from our porch.

One the coolest things about our view was that every day we saw dolphins swimming in the Ocean. Every now and then they would even jump out of the water like we were at Sea World! If you look at the picture below, you can see the dolphins.

One of the days we were there it was nice enough to go to the beach. Surprisingly I played in the Atlantic Ocean. The water was very cold! When I got out my feet were bright red. My little brother wasn’t brave like me and only dipped his toe in the water. My parents kept asking me “how can you get in?” I brought back a bunch of seashells that I can bring in to show everybody. It was a great day and a lot of fun!

I learned a lot by going to the Wright Brothers’ Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. I learned that there were actually real Wright Brothers who made and flew the first airplane. I got to see a model of their airplane. It was amazing that it looked so different than our planes do today.

I got to see pictures of famous pilots. One of them was Amelia Earhart. She was the first licensed woman pilot! I really wanted to get my picture taken next to her painting.

We were going to walk all the way up to the Wright Brother’s Memorial but it was starting to rain and we didn’t think we would make it. Instead of walking up to the Memorial we looked in the Museum. Next time I go I am definitely going to walk all the way up to it.

At our place we had an indoor pool that my brother and I went swimming in. Well actually I swam and he stayed in the hot tub with Mommy and Daddy. The roof was retractable so it was like swimming outside. The last day we were there we had a big storm and it made the Ocean really rough. We could see the huge waves crashing from our room. It was a great vacation where I got to learn about some new things and spend time with my family.
